FAQs
How long will it take to learn the ChiRunning Technique?
A day’s workshop will give you a good foundation to start from as will individual lessons. However, Danny Dreyer, the founder of ChiRunning describes learning the technique as like learning Yoga or T’ai Chi – a lifelong learning process rather than something you learn in a day, week, or month. For this reason, it is good to attend workshops or have lessons to keep ‘topping up’ your learning.
How easy is it to learn the ChiRunning Technique?
Most people are able to quickly benefit from integrating some elements of the technique into their running. However, the people who get the greatest benefit are those who make a commitment to practice consistently. In other words ChiRunning will teach you how to run with less effort but you do need to put some effort into learning it!
If I were to take individual lessons how many would I need?
Everyone is starting from a different point and learns at different speeds but three lessons are about right for most people as a starter. However, even one lesson would give a good introduction to the technique.
Is it possible to learn ChiRunning from the book or DVD?
Whilst you can learn the principles of ChiRunning from the book and DVD, it is worthwhile attending a workshop or taking individual lessons to check that you have got the technique right. Feedback from a certified instructor is invaluable because what we think we are doing is often not what we are doing at all.
Can I buy a friend/partner a ChiRunning gift?
Yes. Just get in touch and we can discuss what would work best
Where can I see a good example of the ChiRunning Technique?
This video of Master ChiRunning Instructor, Marion Meesters provides a great example.
Things to notice are:
- Good postural alignment
- Feet landing underneath, not in front
- Slight lean from ankles which increases slightly to increase speed
- Heels coming up, knees staying down
- Efficient arm swing
- Consistent cadence throughout
